OUR STORY

Grounds & greens cafe was the result of a love story between two accomplished chefs, Mannel and Ben Kilford.

Their mission in opening a plant-based cafe was to build a community of people and families who value kindness, and are committed to the improving themselves, the community and the environment. At Grounds & Greens Café, you will find plant-based dishes that were created with quality and creativity in mind. As their guest, you can trust to find nutritionally balanced menu items meant to nourish and sustain your body, and the elevated taste is meant to inspire plant-based eating. All dishes are made in house with high quality, often locally sourced ingredients.

Mannel Kilford

Favourite Dish: Basic B*** Bowl
Coffee Order: Cortado (wink wink… it’s not on the menu but it can be done!)
Fun Facts: When I’m not in the kitchen you will find me working out, I do a variety of exercises but my favourites are F45 for strength training and peloton for cardio! Travelling is my passion and I’ve been to over 30+ countries (and counting) to date! Favourite winter vacation would be Prague and summer vacation is Costa Rica! My current obsession right now is thrifting and spending time with my son!!!

Fun facts: I have a wood fire pizza oven that I use to make authentic Italian pizza almost every night, I have worked as a chef for 24 years and I collect model trains.

Fun Facts: I love art, paddleboarding and most of all animals. I hope to have a farm one day so I can care for and raise a bunch of them!

Fun Facts: I have travelled to 13 different countries (Thailand was my fave!), I love to bartend and my room is covered in plants because I have a huge green thumb!

Fun Facts: I went to culinary school in the Philippines, then did my internship in California. Christmas is my favourite holiday and I love Taylor Swift, wish me luck getting those Vancouver tickets!

Fun Facts: I graduated from UVIC with a degree in Recreation and Health Education, my family is from Estonia and my fave way to spend time is outside either hiking or camping!
